British Council holds training for English language teachers

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- British Council in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of Uzbekistan and the Uzbek State World Languages University held a training “Implementation of state standards on education” for teachers of English language on 24-26 August 2015.
The training attracted over 200 teachers of English language from 18 universities of Uzbekistan, who work based on new English language teaching programme. The event was aimed at determining clear tasks for new academic year and ensuring their full implementation.
The training participants considered issues of international communication, development of communication skills, system of assessment of language skills, etc.
The project on reforming system of training of teachers represents good partnership between British Council and Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education. Within the project, 18 pedagogic universities of Uzbekistan establish direct academic relations with Norwich Institute for Language Education. The project helped to improve education process of 34,000 teachers and 6.5 million students in Uzbekistan.
New educational programme was developed by British Council and Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education in cooperation with Norwich Institute for Language Education. Within the programme, the seminars on creation of educational materials and introduction of assessment systems are developed.
The programme is based on national peculiarities of teaching languages and international experience. The national video conferences with participation of the universities, training teachers, are held now. The educational materials for future teachers are under development. The training for English language specialists in preparing final tests was also held.
British Council also supported Ministry of Public Education in developing educational manuals for school students, which is used by over 500,000 students each year.
Mark Crossey, director of British Council in Uzbekistan, said: “I am very happy to see some results in implementation of the programme. First, teachers are noting that they feel themselves more confident in auditorium, carrying out lessons with new method. Second, it is pleasure to see how national potential of English language specialists is developing thanks to joint international project.”
Jamilya Gulyamova, project manager and Deputy Director of British Council in Uzbekistan, added that the project is good example for reforming of English language teaching, which is based on concept of regular professional development of teachers. New programme fully meets high national and international standards, as well as requirements of time.
