Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan number one Denis Istomin won his first ever ATP World Tour title at the Aegon Open Nottingham with a thrilling 7-6(1), 7-6(6) win over Sam Querrey of the United States.
Istomin came through six tough matches at the last grass court event before Wimbledon to lift the trophy in front of an appreciative sell-out crowd.
The match lasted 1 hour and 42 minutes. During the match Denis Istomin recorded seven aces and two break points, as well as three double faults.
Sam Querrey served 12 aces and recorded two break points, as well as six double faults in the course of the match.
Istomin said: “I was pushing so much at the end and I am very happy to win my first title, I worked hard for it. It was an amazing and very tough week. I am happy for myself and my mum. I didn’t see her after the match, she left straight away, I think she was just so happy. We have a good combination – and I don’t have to pay for a coach!”
