Tashkent hosts conference on parliamentary control

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An international conference “Actual issues of improving organizational-legal mechanism of conducting parliamentary control: experience of Uzbekistan and foreign state” was held in Tashkent, the press service of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan said.
The event considered improving role of parliament in controlling executive power. It was noted that over 20 laws were adopted in Uzbekistan, which create legal framework for efficient parliamentary control in the country.
It was stated that Constitution of Uzbekistan was amended in recent years to provide right to parliament consider reports of Prime Minister on actual issues of social-economic development of Uzbekistan.
However, In January 2015, at the joint session of the Legislative Chamber and Senate of Oliy Majlis, President of Uzbekistan noted that it is necessary to further improve parliamentary control and participation of the political parties in this process.
The conference participants discussed experience of foreign states in parliamentary control, forms and mechanisms of its implementation. The foreign experts also studied experience of Uzbekistan in the area.
The conference helped to develop recommendations, which will further help to improve law-making process in Uzbekistan and foreign states.
It was underlined that parliamentary control is efficient mechanism of the system of checks and balances among the branches of the government. The participants considered issues of further improving legislative base for parliamentary control in Uzbekistan.
It was underlined that Uzbekistan develops a draft law “On parliamentary control”, which will further improve parliamentary control in the country.
