OIC delegation holds talks at Committee for religious affairs

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Committee for religious affairs at the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with the delegation of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) led by director of political department of the OIC Ali Abolhassani on 19 December 2014.
The OIC delegation arrived in Uzbekistan as international observers to elections of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and representative bodies in places. The delegation includes representatives of Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Sudan.
Chairperson of the Committee for religious affairs Ortiq Yusupov, his deputy Utkir Hasanbaev and other officials welcomed the guests.
The Uzbek side familiarized with religious life in Uzbekistan. It was underlined that 2,200 religious organizations of 16 religions operate in Uzbekistan. It was underlined that there are Islamic religious educational institutions in the country.
The Uzbek official underlined that citizens of Uzbekistan travel to pilgrimages to Saudi Arabia, Israel, Turkey, Greece and Russia. The guests familiarized with print religious materials.
The OIC mission expressed interest in sample of Koran, which was printed in Braille font for blind people. Uzbekistan is the third country, which published Koran in Braille font.
Ali Abolhassani underlined that experience of Uzbekistan attracted interest of the OIC. The guests noted that the OIC is fighting religious extremism and terrorism. He noted that religious extremism and highly skilled religion specialists are key tools to fighting religious extremism. The OIC said the organization is ready for cooperation with Uzbekistan.
Ortiq Yusupov said that terrorism acts in Muslim countries are not related to Islam. This position of Uzbekistan was supported by the OIC official.
Ali Abolhassani expressed importance of democratic elections in Uzbekistan for further development of the country as a whole. He said that one of tasks of the OIC is to render help to member states in efficient management of the country and holding open and free elections.
The OIC delegation expressed assurance that elections in Uzbekistan will be transparent and organized. The Uzbek side wished success to observers in their activities during the election.
