Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov held negotiations with the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev on 25 November within his official visit to Kazakhstan.
At the face-to-face meeting, leaders of two states considered implementation of agreements, reached during the visit of Nursultan Nazarbaev to Uzbekistan in June 2013.
The sides considered priority directions of bilateral cooperation in trade-economic, water-energy, transport and cultural-humanitarian spheres.
Besides, the President considered key aspects of regional security and actual international issues at the meeting.
Nursultan Nazarbaev said that Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are close with their history and culture. He said being neighbors, the countries build their relations in proper way. Kazakhstan supports Uzbekistan in all its beginnings. Kazakh leader said that Kazakhstan is for strengthening friendly relations between two states, expand trade and relations, including in external and internal security and other issues. He added that both people in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan follow current talks as stability and development of all whole region depend from position and mutual work of two states.
In his turn, President of Uzbekistan underlined that situation in the modern world is changing rapidly. He said that in such situation each state seeks its support, clarifies plans and hopes for support of close states. Kazakhstan is the closest state for Uzbekistan and close nation, who was always with Uzbekistan in happy and difficult days.
Uzbek head said that Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan used assistant of each other. He noted that leaders of two nations should meet more frequently to “synchronize watches” and determine further perspectives jointly.
At the meeting of the expanded structure, President of Kazakhstan underlined that Uzbekistan is a leading trade-economic partner of Kazakhstan in Central Asian region.
Kazakh President said that despite negative trends in world economy and fall of prices to main products, trade turnover between two states is growing. At the same time, two countries are not using their economic potential fully, Nazarbaev said. He added that intergovernmental commission and the governments of two states should expand the volume of bilateral trade.
Nursultan Nazarbaev also expressed gratitude to Uzbekistan for support of candidacy of Kazakhstan for hosting international exhibition EXPO 2017. He added that he hopes Uzbekistan will participate in the exhibition and Kazakh side will create all necessary conditions for this.
Kazakh leader expressed his assurance that negotiations will become important step in strengthening mutual trade, including trade-economic relations.
In his turn, Islam Karimo said that his visit is logic continuation of their meeting, which was held in Tashkent in summer 2013.
He said that Uzbekistan considers this visit as good opportunity to critically consider all complex of the Uzbek-Kazakh multipronged relations and exchange opinion on actual regional and international issues.
Islam Karimov underlined that Uzbekistan welcomes active foreign political position of Kazakhstan and initiatives of Nursultan Nazarbaev directed at strengthening regional and international security, improving role and authority of the country in international arena.
Uzbek President said that during the talks it was underlined that the countries has common long-term strategic and national priorities and affirmed political will to agree and jointly solve wide-scale tasks and goals.
During the briefing to mass media, Nazarbaev said that the leaders considered a wide range of issues. In particular, the sides considered further strengthening of political interaction, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian cooperation. He said that the countries have close approaches on many issues, including water problems in the region. He said that mutual trust important in this area. It is also necessary transparency and respect of interests of all countries of the region, he added.
Nursultan Nazarbaev said that two leaders discussed situation in Ukraine, Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will support each other at international arena and participate in realization of joint initiatives within UN, OSCE, CIS, SCO, OIC and other organizations, Kazakh leader added. Cooperation in combating international terrorism and religious extremism are also actual issues, he noted.
Kazakh President said that bilateral trade turnover is expanding. From 2005 to 2013, it rose four times and exceeded US$2 billion, Nazarbaev said. In nine months of 2014, it made up over US$1.5 billion. He noted that this is connected with growth of economy two states and strengthening of cooperation in the whole region.
Kazakh President express his assurance that the results of the visit of Islam Karimov will lift bilateral relations to new quality level of strategic partnership.
In his turn, Uzbek President expressed his satisfaction with the results of the negotiations, which were held in spirit of openness and trust. He also said that the meeting showed that the states have close positions on many discussed issues and key directions of regional cooperation and international policy.
Karimov said that modern challenges directly touch strategic interests both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. He said that they require more close cooperation to preserve peace, stability and calm in the countries and the region as a whole to ensure sustainable development of national economy and improve prosperity of people.
More efficient cooperation is behind fast development of bilateral trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, Uzbek President added.
President Islam Karimov said that economy of Kazakhstan rose by 5-6% in recent years, which is serious growth. Taking into account high economic growth in Uzbekistan, the countries have great opportunity to develop mutual trade and ensure sustainable economic growth of two countries, he added.
President said that two president confirmed their single position on construction of new hydropower stations at upper stream of Amudarya and Syrdarya.
Islam Karimov underlined that the sides also reached agreement on further developing cultural-humanitarian cooperation, which is important factor for rapprochement of two nations.
Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan signed a protocol on introduction of changes to intergovernmental agreement of cooperation in sphere of protection of industrial property from 2 June 1997 and programme of cooperation between Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan for 2015-2016.
Nursultan Nazarbaev and Islam Karimov visited Library of the First President, where they familiarized with main halls, key expositions and “mobile library”.
