Uzbekenergo announces tender for construction of solar station

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- State joint stock company Uzbekenergo announced a tender for construction of photovoltaic power plant in Samarkand region.
The tender was announced for selection of general contractor for designing, building and operation of 100 megawatt grid-connected crystalline photovoltaic power plant with fixed tilt assembly in Samarkand.
The starting price of the tender was not announced. The tender proposals will be received till 19 December. The results will be summed up in the first quarter of 2015.
The bidding is open to bidders from eligible source countries of the ADB. The contract will be jointly financed by Asian Development Bank and Fund for Reconstruction and Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan (UFRD). The eligibility rules and procedures of ADB will govern the bidding process.
The project envisages construction of generating capacities for 100 megawatt with production of 200 million KWH of electricity a year. The project is expected to run for about five years with an estimated completion date of March 2019.
The project cost is US$310 million. It will be financed due to loan of the Asian Development Bank for US$110 million, as well as resources of the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan and Uzbekenergo.
As reported earlier, Uzbekistan plans to build several solar-based electric power plants with a capacity of over 2 GW, according to earlier reports. Those plants will be financed by Uzbenergo and loans of the international financial organizations.
Potential of solar energy of Uzbekistan is rated at 50.9 billion tonnes of oil equivalent, which makes up 99.7% of all researched renewable energy in Uzbekistan.
