Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The tenth session of the joint Uzbek-Turkmen commission on trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation was held in Tashkent on 31 July 2014 within the visit of the delegation of Turkmenistan led by Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations Bayar Abaev to Uzbekistan.
At the session, the sides exchanged information and discussed actual issues of bilateral cooperation, including current state and perspective of trade-economic relations, further expansion of agreement-legal base and development of relations in transport, culture, science and other spheres.
The Turkmen side underlined that Uzbekistan is a country with a huge potential in trade-economic sphere and high skilled specialists, as well as diversified economy and industry. It was said Turkmenistan considers Uzbekistan as important and traditional economic partner and interested in development of mutual beneficial trade relations.
It was underlined that Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan formed firm agreement-legal base of bilateral cooperation in various directions. Agreements “on main directions of long-term trade-economic cooperation”, “On encouragement and mutual protection of investments” and “On avoiding bilateral taxation of income and property” and other documents serve as legal base for trade-economic cooperation between two states.
Turkmenistan is one of key trade partners of Uzbekistan in Central Asia. The trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan made up US$353.9 million in 2013, of which exports reached US$170.3 million and imports – US$183.6 million. In January-June 2014, trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan reached US$145 million, including exports – US$128.4 million and imports – US$16.6 million.
Currently, there are seven enterprises with Turkmen investments in Uzbekistan, of which one is with 100% Turkmen capital. They operate in such areas as production of construction materials, oil processing enterprise, trade and service.
