Uzbekistan produces 2.4m tonnes of vegetables

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan produced 2.4 million tonnes of vegetables and 782,400 tonnes of fruits in the first half of 2014, a publication of the Ministry of Economy and the State Statistics Committee said.
Uzbekistan planed vegetables at the 255,800 hectares of land, potatoes - 81,500 hectares, melons – at 571,000 hectares.
New gardens were created at 2,400 hectares, intensive gardens – 5,600 hectares and 8,900 hectares – vineyards. The country reconstructed 4,100 hectares of gardens, 6,100 hectares of vineyards. About 421 greenhouses were created at 213.5 hectares.
Uzbekistan collected over 8 million tonnes of grain, 2 million tonnes of vegetables (+10%), potatoes – 1.2 million tonnes (+11.3%), 150,700 tonnes of melons (+11.1%), 782,400 tonnes of fruits (+10.1%) and grapes – 22,200 tonnes (+12%).
Uzbekistan created 29 new cold stores to store 13,500 fruits and vegetables, the bodies said. The stores were created to keep fruits and vegetables for winter.
In six months of 2014, Uzbekistan implemented 1,430 projects on development of animal husbandry with total number of 37,400 cattle and 660 projects on development of poultry with total number of 7.3 million birds, as well as 677 projects on development of fisher with 1,700 hectares of artificial and 5,000 hectares of natural water reservoirs, and 800 projects on development of bee-keeping.
The commercial banks issued 131.4 billion soums to development of cattle-breeding, 155.3 billion soums to creation of poultry farmers and 12.9 billion soums to development of fishery and bee-keeping.
In the result, total number of cattle rose by 4.4% to 10.7 million heads. The volume of production of meat grew by 6.5%, milk – 6.7% and eggs – 11.2%.
